We have been working very hard and hope you enjoy the slideshow of photos. This week Class 3 are rounding off their half term’s work on Senses and Sound and also completing some assessments in Numeracy and Literacy to see how much they can impress us with remembering their learning!! It seems a long time since the last themed event and we are all looking forward to our themed week celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee starting on 28th May. If you have any items that will link to the Jubilee celebrations, please bring them in next week and remember to name them. Many thanks for your support.
In case you don’t already know, our new topics this half term are Senses and Sound. We are currently collecting junk modelling items, empty boxes, packets, tubs and kitchen roll tubes as this Friday 4th May we will be using them to make our own musical instruments!! Hopefully we will have some photographs to show you of our activities over the week too. We have been so busy since returning to school. In Numeracy we have been concentrating on counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have been solving word problems and missing number problems. We have also looked again at interpreting tally charts in order to draw block graphs. In Literacy we have been writing descriptions of the a Fairground, telling everyone our holiday news and discussing the meanings of the words real and fantasy when talking about story settings. Don’t forget, spelling tests are every Friday, so please practise each set of words with your child at home, ready for the end of the week.
We hope you enjoy looking at our photos this week. The Lifeboat Station trip was fantastic and we learnt so much about the important job that the unpaid volunteer crews do to help people and boats in trouble along our coastline. Thanks to Mrs Hawes, Mr McHale and Mrs Markham for accompanying the children, Mrs Ellershaw and I. If you wish children, have a go at writing what you enjoyed or something that you learnt on the trip in the comments box at the end of the slideshow. We will look at them next week. Remember to only leave your first name next to your writing.
Other activities we have enjoyed these past two weeks include practising for our Easter assembly and programming our class Beebot to move in different ways and designing mazes for him to move around. In PE we have been practising throwing to a target and dodging out of the way of soft balls by jumping and running. Thank you for sending in all the Easter donations for the Bingo Night today. Have a lovely weekend.

We have been very busy over the last fortnight as our photos show. In Numeracy we have been learning about doubling and finding doubles to 10. We have also started work on revision of telling the time to the hour and half hour. We spent some time writing directions to different places inside and outside school and drawing maps of our journeys to school. In Literacy we have been writing descriptive sentences about a cockerel and recognising the difference between the sounds th, and f – always tricky. A lot of our topic work has been about “People Who Help Us.” Mr Dow visited us to be interviewed about his job!! We also celebrated World Book Day- it was lovely to be visited by lots of mums who spent time sharing books in class before hometime. Our class assembly was the highlight of this week. Thank you to all of you who came to watch it. Have a lovely weekend.
Welcome back after the holiday. I hope you have had a good half term. All of Year 1 have been getting used to their new classrooms, cloakrooms and playground this week. I have been impressed with how well Class 3 have adjusted to the changes – well done. We haven’t had much time to take a lot of pictures, but the slideshow includes photos of PC Clarke and his PCSO colleague’s visit to Year 1 as part of our new topic on “People who help us.” The children were really fascinated by the uniform and various equipment that they were shown!! We asked lots of questions and learnt a lot about the daily routines of a police officer. Ask your child about it. We have also been completing money work in Numeracy. Practise with your child finding different ways of making 10p using 1p’s, 2p’s and 5p’s. We also had our first outdoor PE lesson and had great fun in the sun practising balancing, jumping, running and hopping over obstacles (quoits).
Remember to bring outdoor PE kit for Tuesday’s lesson each week as it can be cold and windy on the playground.
Have a lovely weekend – Mrs Felvus
This week Class 3 have been completing Numeracy work on Weight – finding examples of things that are heavy and light; Comparing weights of different classroom objects and using the balance to find out how many cubes weigh the same as selected items. We have also been practising ordering numbers and picking out high and low numbers from a random selection.
In Literacy we listened to the the story “After the Storm” featuring Percy the Park Keeper, and we retold the story in our own words. Letter y was our focus for handwriting activities.
In topic we have continued our Water theme, by looking at Matisse’s painting of “The Goldfish” and had a great time predicting and testing out objects to see if they would float or sink.
Don’t forget to learn spellings brought home on Monday, for next Friday’s test.
Below are some photos showing the exciting activities we completed last week celebrating Chinese New Year. We really enjoyed Mrs Cheung’s presentation and all the artefacts she brought in to help with the discussion on New Year celebrations in her family. The fortune cookies were yummy too! We had a whole school Tai Chi exercise session in the playground led by the Tai Chi group who taught us all the right moves! In class we tasted some great Chinese food. The prawn crackers were a hot favourite. We learnt to say some simple Chinese greetings and how numbers were written. We completed some descriptive writing about the Chinese Dragon Dance and painted lanterns in repeating patterns. We also had a visit from our very own dragon! It was a fantastic day.
